Turned down a potential invite for an impulse drive up to Tahoe for the weekend. Very tempting, but given that the next two weekends are chock full of SCA, I really do need to get the guest/music-room ready for the Floor Guys this weekend. (I don't yet have a date scheduled for the Floor Guys, but I strongly suspect that it would come sooner than 4 weeks from now!)

I delivered the old bed to the Freecyclee yesterday after work. As I was starting to unload, a random neighbor passing by (college-age kid, or maybe mature high-school age) offered to help. He didn't seem to know the Freecyclee personally -- just a completely random offer. It made the job much smoother and left a warm and fuzzy feeling. Tonight is scheduled for moving all the other furniture and stuff out of the room (cedar chest, two bookshelves full of sheet music and instruments, all the larger instruments from the closet, and a handful of other random objects that get stored in that closet and probably shouldn't be). Also removing the shades from the windows and the truly ugly contact paper from the window sills. Possibly also washing down the walls and spackling. Then tomorrow I rip out the carpets and tack strips (which will save me a hundred dollars or so from the Floor Guys) and paint. This room has the same problem as my living room: east-facing windows only, shaded by the deck and all the backyard foliage. So I've learned to get the brightest, most light-reflecting white paint I can find. Home Depot had a color named "White on White" which looks like it should do the trick.

If I get both coats done on Saturday, then I can go shopping on Sunday for new window treatments (I'm thinking of roller-shades for optional privacy and something colorful for everyday) and maybe window-shopping at IKEA for new shelving ideas. I don't want to finalize the shelving plans, though, until I have the bed installed and know what my actual clearances are going to be. Other than that, the surplus dining room chairs will live there, and the braided rag rug (which I thought some other sibling had taken receipt of, but it turns out I'd stored it somewhere non-obvious).

When the project is all completed eventually, I shall have to christen the music-room-function of the space by throwing a small jam party. (It will, of course, still retain the guest-room function as well.)
