The final play of this year's Cal Shakes season totally rocked. Mind you, it's hard (although not impossible) to miss with a Shakespeare comedy. Three things really stood out. The actress who played Titania/Hippolyta was TOTALLY HAWT. *ahem* They weren't afraid to write new, topical material that integrated seamlessly with the original (in particular, Puck's "Prologue against cell phones", which I'd love to have a copy of). And related to the previous, a reminder that there's a lot of room between the lines of the script to create very individual characters that can either enhance or subvert a more traditional understanding of the text.

(Unrelated note: And the DSL network, in its on-again off-again misbehavior is back "on", at least with coaxing. This is a problem because it's hard to get the underlying problem fixed unless it stays reliably broken.)

The prologue

Lots of people have been asking after that prologue (see the latest comments on this blog entry: http://calshakes.blogspot.com/2009/09/ask-philippa-and-aaron.html) so we're trying to get it up on calshakes.org!
