... do something special for my birthday. All week I kept thinking I should phone up some folks and plan dinner or a movie or something. But there was the collegium presentation to put together. And then, yesterday evening, I spent three or four hours writing up a name consultation for the incoming princess of the Mists (on whose court I am, so it's more of a must-do than usual). And by the time I'd looked up from the keyboard, it was far too late to call anyone. And then I was thinking I'd go off to lunch with the co-workers, but they all wanted to do Mexican food and I just wasn't in the mood, so I ended up finishing up work on the collegium Power Point presentation instead. That left the evening free to troubleshoot the computer projector (see previous entry on malfunction) and determine that, no, I hadn't done anything wrong during the presentation at Kalamazoo; it just has some sort of inherent malfunction. After much testing and experimentation and composing a long letter to tech support, I got down the packing case for the iMac to take to collegium so I have at least some sort of presentation. (And it's the 20" screen, so that's about as good as I can get without a projector.) But dammit, Collegium is exactly the sort of thing I bought that projector for, and my entire class presentation is designed around the visuals. And I didn't do anything to that projector. In retrospect, the point when it changed from "working" to "malfunctioning" it was sitting quietly on the projection cart without anyone touching it.

Oh, and the first two shipments of books from Kalamazoo arrived, including the big box of ones that I packed (as opposed to the ones that are being shipped by the publishers). I guess that counts as something special for my birthday.

AS long as I use convention scheduling, even though it's past midnight it's still the same day because I haven't gone to bed. It won't be tomorrow for another several hours. So Happy Birthday, just barely in time. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it!)

A big box of books sounds good, but I'm sorry the "Let's do something with friends today" plans fell through.

Happy birthday! Remember, it's never too late to celebrate with friends.
