1. Despite the "meh", I did go to Beltane. There's a lot to be said for having a "light" option even for full-out medieval camping. In my case, it involves "peasant dining" (i.e., bread, cheese, fruit, sausage) rather than fancy cooking.

2. Despite going, I ended up feeling rather unsocial and spent vast quantities of time in my tent working on the paper. Made much progress. Felt happy about that.

3. Not finished with the girlie stuff after all. Discover this, of course, in the middle of a camping trip. Potential causal relationship to "meh" unclear.

4. Spent much of Saturday re-staking the tent, due to an annoying combination of gusty winds and soggy ground. Managed to rip part of one wall. Highly annoying but quite fixable.

5. Wanted to stay up to listen to the Pro-Am Bardic (after the BotW competition) since I knew [livejournal.com profile] cryptocosm had been working on stuff, but it was barely thinking about getting started at 11:30 and I needed to sleep. Sorry.

6. If you are deeply concerned that a reigning royal maintains a squire relationship to someone else during their reign and it has never seemed to concern you that a reigning royal maintained an apprentice or protege relationship to someone else during their reign, don't expect me to be in sympathy with your concerns.

7. I guess the number of things that make a post is 6 ... no, 7 ... no, wait ... ack, I'm being consumed by self-recursion.

It didn't start until 11:30? Wow! I remember the last one went forever, and it started early. I never would've made it.

Hopefully there will be less meh in the future!

Well it was scheduled after the Bard of the West competition and that one had 8 competitors ....

Hmm... you seemed perfectly social to me. I thought we had a lovely conversation. I did feel like I was sucking up all your time and attention because I tend to impose myself on you, but that was purely me.

What I was working on was playing around with the Bard of the West on-site topic. Came up with something; finally got to present it after the Pro/Am was done and things settled into (almost, modulo one somewhat overenthusiastic fellow) Pick, Pass, or Play. I might have entered the Pro/Am if anyone had approached me about partnering, especially after discovering that several of the "teams" were just doing one individual piece each rather than anything together.

I'm trying to remember how much of my stuff you've ever heard me do.

I've heard a fair number of your pieces, but my impression is that "a fair number" is a small percentage.

Re: 6 -- I think more people were concerned because of who the Royal's Knight is, even if that was not voiced. That said, I agree that if we're going to make a big deal of it, it needs to be made about both parts of a couple -- if the King or Queen (Prince/Princess) is a student of anyone (squire, apprentice, protege, or whatever) and has a fealty oath involved, then that should be considered before Coronation (or Investiture).

Agreed on both points, plus...

When one sees a squire's belt, one assumes a fealty relationship. The same assumption cannot be made for apprentices/proteges - many of them are not in fealty. I think that's why it may have been overlooked in the past.

I also believe the fact that his Majesty is not a member of any peerage order may be contributing.

I know Mari wore her red belt when she was Queen with Gemini, and I wonder if Havoc put their fealty oath aside for the duration of her reign? Or if they even considered it... I'll have to ask them.

I don't know if we decided on a specific night. I should probably check my schedule against any evening sessions, but my recollection is that Friday is the optimum evening.

I think I saw you for two seconds, across the eric, while I was chatting with CJ and providing entertainment for both of your brothers, Darkwood, and people I've no clue who they were. There was a lot of that last part throughout Saturday for me. You know you've been inactive a very long time, when you don't know about a third of the knights. Truly enjoyed being completely out of the political loop.

I look forward to the K'Zoo posts. Would really like to go some day, if only to max out my credit card in the bookstore.
