I feel like I've been neglecting my journal lately (except for a couple of memes -- which for me is neglect). Truth is, July was a fairly intensive month with 3/5 out-of-town weekends and a lot of just plain down time in between. This weekend I'm starting to feel physically caught up again -- achieved by virtue of declining social options. And I've been working on a few big journal items that should be showing up within a week or two. One is a presentation of the details of the "Period Picnic Project" that I've alluded to a time or two. Second is the notes and sketches from the Silk Road exhibit. (This weekend's progress was scanning in the notebook.) Third is a long contemplative and semi-scholarly essay on female cross-dressing in history and in the SCA, which I've been promising for quite some time now. (I got all my existing notes typed in today, but there are a lot of "look this topic up and expand on it with footnotes" bits that will need to be filled in.)

But in the mean time, here's something else I got caught up on, belatedly. One of the classes I took at the A&S Tourney was making core-formed glass vessels. We took them home still on the mandrels, since they were still fairly warm at that point. I could tell from the visible cracks that they weren't going to come off the forms in one piece (which is only to be expected with the first couple dozen tries, as I understand it). So I wanted to get some photos before that happened. (Which meant I had to wait until I replaced the digital camera which was one of the victims of the burglary while I was away at A&S. And then after I'd replaced it, it was crazy-month.)

Sure enough, they didn't survive the core-removal process. But maybe next time. Or the time after that. Or ....
