I came home at lunch today to meet the flooring measuring guy so they can give me the detailed estimate. He was very quick and efficient. We discussed what items could be worked around (elevated wall shelves, pictures hung on walls) and which ones I'd need to have moved elsewhere (furniture, wood-burning stove). It sounded like they could also do the furniture moving, but I might as well save the money by doing it myself. The stove will be a bit of a wrestling job -- I'll probably just stick it out in the backyard for the duration. In fact, I should probably take the opportunity to hose it out thoroughly and re-black it, and maybe have the chimney pipe cleaned out as well. There is no end. Since I doubt I can interest even Goodwill in the couches, they're going to the dump, although that may be an interesting logistical issue. Perhaps a brother with a pick-up truck could be persuaded .... Or I could see if the "big garbage" pickup service would cover something that big. Other than the big items (and the computer cart), everything else is moved into the next room already. Now to review my IKEA shopping list for the shelving units.

There are services that will haul large furniture to the dump for you for not-cheap but sometimes it's worth it ... look in the yellow pages for things like "1-800-Got-Junk" or whatever.

The brother with the pickup truck is currently attempting to recuperate a bit (between shuffling boxes of books), but something might be worked out in due course. How soon does this need to happen?
