Writing: The Mystic Marriage
Dec. 30th, 2012 12:00 amI'm mostly managing to fit writing in around the family holiday visit -- doing a bit before I get up and after going to bed. The chapter I just finished is being a bit tricky. Using a very tight viewpoint and only a small sprinkling of self-awareness, I need to convey that this chapter's viewpoint character is undergoing something approaching a nervous breakdown with an accompanying physical crash. (In clinical terms: long-term sleep deprivation, massive stress, plus an immediate dollop of hypothermia. Oh, and likely some underlying PTSD.) In part, this is the context for some bad decision-making, but I also found that the plot required her to be out of action for a couple weeks and I couldn't quite figure out why she would be laying low on her own for that long until it came to me that knocking her off her feet with a raging fever and delirium followed by significant convalescence would do the trick. Poor Antuniet: it gets worse before it gets better.
