Boo, they had to mess with the hard drive (along with other stuff). So I guess this evening is all about reinstalling all my software and starting to reconstruct the files that lived on the laptop. Grr. Some I pull from the full backup. Some I pull from the "synchronize these files regularly" folder. Some I reconstruct the most recent parts from scratch (like the checkbook register). Some are simply gone (like achives of recently sent e-mail). Such is the ephemerality of electrons.

Had a nice long phone chat with mom post-hip-replacement. (Well, it turns out they just did the "top of the femur replacement" bit -- didn't need the artificial hip socket. Although I'm now curious about how the artificial femur head attaches to the natural pelvic socket.) She's quite cheerful, out of pain, and looking forward to getting up on her feet for rehab tomorrow. There are times when I envy her positive outlook. Heck, I pretty much constantly envy her positive outlook.

That's great about your mom! Hemi-arthroplasty (just the ball replacement) has a *much* easier recovery than full arthroplasty! She won't have to be quite so careful, and she'll have a lot easier time :):):)

(BTW: The muscles/tendons/etc. hold it in place, just like they do with the original)
