Off the Grid

I’ve had the occasional week when I wanted to wimp out on the hyper-organized chores, but this is the first week when I decided I needed to “go off the grid” for a week. The heat at A&S really wiped me out, then I spent Wednesday evening driving up to Rohnert Park to do a fitting of the outfit I’m making for the Princess of the Mists, and tomorrow evening I’m having people over for dinner (
madbaker’s upstairs neighbors, to use the usual reference point.) And I’m still thrown off kilter by the chaos in the downstairs. So this is a vacation week, by fiat.
I’ve been having some fun trying out some of the metal braids from Birka for the princess’s outfit. (These are the ones that are basically macramé done with wire.) I’m just doing the ones that are plain wire – not the ones that are spring-coils. I’m not good enough at producing the spring coils yet, although I’ve got a working technique. Maybe I’ll have this stuff together enough to teach at Fall Collegium.
