A flash of light and a puff of smoke

And suddenly one of the light over the kitchen sink goes dark. Change bulb. No response. Notice dark stain under edge of light fixture. Hmm. Turns out, one of the wires decided to exit this world in a dramatic fashion. No clue what the initial problem was, since the insulation is still intact, but the wire inside it is no longer integral. Argh. I don't do electronics. That is, I could, but I'd really rather not. Oh, and the screw in the pasta did come from the handle of the knife I used to chop the mushrooms. At least one mystery is solved.

Gah! That sounds like something I'd expect to happen at our place. Definitely time to call in a handyman or electrician to deal with it. Blech. The joys of being a homeowner, eh?
