Mom is in the hospital again with more blood clot issues -- this time she managed to cut off circulation to one foot, but they've got it all back pumping again. But this evidently means that they are taking her off the thalidomide and reorganizing the various medications. In a recent e-mail she mentioned that the last test results showed the "indicator proteins" had dropped to within the desirable range, so maybe the stuff has done some good as well as the annoying parts. Maybe. I want to go back to the time when I didn't dread opening e-mails and answering phone calls from relatives.

Still no progress on the dry rot front. I've had no extra mental energy this week, although I do seem to have successfully added full computer back-ups to my weekly chores checklist. Maybe I should add "any one item from the computer projects to-do list" to the weekly schedule. But I worry that I'll eventually have my entire life scheduled by checklist. It's funny how the same mental tricks that get the stuff done can start feeling like flypaper.

You sound so calm.

How's your dad doing through all this? The person going through this awfulness has always looked to be coping better than everyone else.
