Out of sorts
Oct. 1st, 2006 07:32 pmRudy's Can't Fail cafe blew it's second chance to impress me today. On the positive side, they didn't charge me for the meal. Very briefly: the couple at the table next to me, who had ordered at the exact same time (which, as it happens, was about 20 minutes after we had been seated) were finished and paying their check before the waiter noticed that I'd never received my food. He promised they'd have it out within two minutes, but then I was presented with an entirely different dish than what I'd ordered. As it happens, they do seem to have prepared the food at some earlier time, because when I was finally served my order, the "fresh" biscuits had dried and cooled to a stale crust on the sliced side. Other than that, it was perfectly edible. But even being comped on the check didn't improve my mood at that point. Then I went off to the pet food store, only to have the clerk double-scan one of my items. So I'm staring at the receipt, asking the clerk about the charge, and she says, "Oh, sorry, I scanned that one twice," and then turned to ring up the next customer. I'm still standing there holding the receipt when she finishes with them and she stares at me blankly. "So, I'm still a bit confused," I say, waiting for her to take some sort of action that corresponds appropriately to her stated error. "Well I suppose you could go get a second item," she says. And then after a pause, "Or if you want me to, I could refund the over-charge." I got the second item. I figured it left the least room for further screw-ups. At this point, I'm wondering if it was worth getting out of bed this morning.
On the other hand, day-tripping crown tourney yesterday was fairly pleasant. I was on duty attending THs for morning court, then got in some shopping (those bad, bad people from Pastische with the books were there), did some hanging out, did some herding to ensure the enactment of a piece of royal business about which more will be heard in good time. I ended up joining a dinner party on my way off site and between our group and two others the SCA pretty much took over the nearest Chinese restaurant, which put a nice finish on things (although it meant it was past midnight by the time I got home).
