Conventions: Sasquan is Coming!
Jul. 29th, 2015 07:49 pmETA: my housing arrangements have been finalized. Potential riders would need to have their own arrangements for Tuesday and Sunday nights.

I've only just returned home from a whirlwind of cons, so obviously it's time to start working seriously on plans for Sasquan (Worldcon). There are four items I want to throw out for consideration. Comments will be hidden for privacy and diplomacy. If you don't have an LJ account, e-mail me at: Sasquan at heatherrosejones dot com.
1. I am driving from the SF Bay Area to Sasquan.
This is a rational decision based on a comparison of cost and total travel/logistics time involved between driving and flying. If I can get a rider or riders (or, alternately, if someone with major gear to move would like me to take it for them), it could move from merely rational to clearly the better deal.
The planned schedule is: leave at the butt-crack of dawn on Tuesday, Aug 18 and arrive whenever, but most likely before midnight even with traffic. Unless you live very close to me, I may strongly suggest you take advantage of my guest room Monday night. If this is a cargo delivery, it needs to be in my hands before Monday. Leave Spokane at the butt-crack of dawn on Monday, Aug 24 and ditto.I do not currently have my con hotel room for the first and last nights involved, so those arrangements are fuzzy and may involve a motel on the edge of town.
Requirements & Perks: Gas-share. Human passengers (as opposed to cargo) are not required to share driving but must offer entertaining conversation on demand. Only one meal stop, otherwise snacks-on-the-go. NO SMOKING. Vehicle has air conditioning and good sound system. Route will involve some very beautiful scenery. Vehicle luggage capacity is significant.
2. Room-share at Sasquan (Red Lion River Inn).
Although I do enjoy the luxury of having a room to myself, I'm open to having a roommate. Currently I have a reservation for Wed-Sun but am trying to extend it to the bracketing nights (see notes under #1).
Requirements & Perks: Female. Should either be someone I know face-to-face, or someone I have a well-established online friendship with. This is for my own comfort and safety. It is possible that I may decline specific offers with no explanation; please don't ask unless you're willing to accept this with no hurt feelings. I'm quiet, have a low footprint, and do not use an alarm clock.
3. Koffee Klatch.
This one's a bit different: I have a koffee klatch scheduled and would like ideas of what incentives to offer to entice people to sign up. What would entice you to spend time chatting with me in a small group, even (or especially) if there are other interesting things going on at the same time? (You aren't committing, just suggesting.) Baked goods? Free books? A promise of inside information? A live demonstration of how to nail an octopus to the wall? (Only metaphoric octopuses.)
4. Planning for Success.
I'm starting to reach out to people that I know will be there to pencil in plans to meet up. This especially includes people I haven't yet met face-to-face, but also includes folks I may only see at conventions. If you're interested, let me know.
