So evidently the answer to the above question is "two years".** Two years from the publication of Daughter of Mystery to the point where I feel like my books have self-sustaining traction. (Not entirely self-sustaining, obviously.) So here's my commitment: when a bout of book-depression starts (and it will start, I can't help that), I will whisper to myself "February 2016" in the same way that my mantra against nobody-loves-me-land is "25th Laurelversary".

I'm glad that the books are gaining some traction.

I need a mantra - especially against that second place, into which I frequently wander.

I wish I had a mantra that I could share. The only one that eventually worked for me was an experience I could hold up and say, "This--this proves that people really do like me." And that can only be individual. One might say I shouldn't have needed concrete proof, but there seemed to be so much proof in the other direction that needed to be countered.

I know that feeling.

I also know I love your books. :)

oh, how well I know that feeling! I, too, have to remember both my 'insta-bird, just add water' Pelican surprise and my 'you will come to Grand Court' Estrella War Court Barony before I became Laurel Sov in 2004. Having people who NEVER come to court be there to see it was extra-special.

You have four proofs of unconditional love right in front of you every day, demanding your attention. (I have a cat in front of me doing something like that right now.) The acclaim of your peers is a separate problem, and fleeting, and open to so many theoretical side arguments as to be almost meaningless. But you have my acclaim, and my respect, if possibly not my cat's.

Word of mouth takes a while, but it works, so it does. *g*

Everybody loves you. You need a cat. Then you'll understand a whole new meaning of love.
