Dateline Dallas/Ft.Worth airport (to be posted later). Darkovercon is wrapped up for another year -- very enjoyable as usual. I got into several involved conversations after and as a result of panels I was on, which is always a Good Thing. Got my ear talked off by an aspiring writer with a novel in progress who felt the need to tell me All About It. (Fortunately, I had my sewing project with me at the time, so I had more patience than I might have otherwise.) Had dinner Saturday evening with a certain expatriate Western cheesemaker and her husband -- whom I'd never seriously gotten to know when they lived on the left coast. The midnight hallelujah chorus sing was as much fun as ever (and, as usual, makes me briefly consider getting into choral singing ... then I remind myself that I don't need one more hobby). The Clam Chowder concert was ... weird. I've gotten used to the notion that the Clam concert pretty much takes over the convention Saturday night. But now it seems like the charity fundraising aspect of the event is taking over the concert. The concert itself was ... ok. But an enormous amount of time and energy got taken up with the "pledge break" and then with carrying through with the results of the various auctions (i.e., the gag Rocky Horror set and the "karaoke" performances). I presume, from the general audience response, that this is what most of the attendees want to get out of it, but I think next year I may just hang out and chat somewhere else instead. Had several people nag me to get back to working on my fiction so they'll have something new of mine to read. Almost came down with a cold (and may yet do so) -- I can feel my tonsils straining under the load, but I may dodge the bullet yet. The data is all crunched for my biostatistics paper and I have a pretty good handle on what my conclusions are going to be. And sitting here I realize that I'm going to be getting in after the free Emeryville shuttle stops running, so I may add a taxi to my collect-the-whole-set transportation experience after all.

Horse-and-carriage. Bicycle. Inline skates.

Not to mention more esoteric modes of transport like skateboard, sedgeway or pogo stick.
