Just saw the last two cars of visitors off. The day started by getting up at 3AM to deliver people to the airport, then I came home to sleep late and after some puttering around with breakfast we set up my new counter-top dishwasher for its inaugural run. Then the cars got packed and goodbyes said and my place is all mine again. As I said to them: I love my family when they visit and I love them when they leave. Now I have five days of actual vacation to get all the 12th Night sewing done. But first, some flat-out vegetating.

how do you like the dishwasher? what're the interior size limits in terms of real dishware? how much of a challenge is it to set up?

I'll be able to answer this better when I've run a few more loads on a routine basis. It was trivial to set up. It seems to be designed primarily for dishes and utensils (but not typically pots and pans) for up to 4 person-equivalents (e.g., 4 from one meal, 2 people at two meals). With it being just me, and primarily covering one meal a day (plus lunch containers) I may be able to fit in a pan or two. And it requires scraping and pre-rinsing (but I generally tend to do that even when I'm planning to hand wash). The theory is that, rather than rinsing the dishes and piling them in the sink or on the counter when I finish with them, I'll rinse them and pile them in the dishwasher. Then I can just hit the "start" button when I go to bed rather than pitting tiredness against responsibility at the end of the day. I've been thinking seriously about a dishwasher for quite a while but was being stumped by the lack of a good location for it in my current cabinet set-up and the wastefulness of running one daily for a single person. This seems to answer both those questions.
