Grrr (sewing)
Jan. 1st, 2007 04:26 pmI am rapidly coming to the conclusion that the pattern-gathering project is going to be a "been there, done that, never want to do it again". The finished panel has now been gathered up and tied off. I've gotten about another inch done on the second panel. Having used heavy-duty quilting thread for the gathering, I figured I'd be safe from thread breakage, but I've having to be extremely careful how hard I pull when tightening the folds, and it has an annoying tendency to break in the middle of tying off as well. Fortunately, there's enough overall structure to the thing that I don't have to re-sew the broken threads as long as there aren't too many of them or too close together. The pattern effect isn't nearly as striking as the photos of the originals appear, but works visually at ordinary viewing distance. (Of course, since this is an undergown, it won't normally be visible at all.) Time to switch to machine sewing for a while.

Date: 2007-01-02 09:55 pm (UTC)Nah, by my calculation the overgown is approximately 188" at the hem and the undergown is 180". (But I do keep whispering to myself that in the worst case scenario, nobody will know what you're wearing as an undergown except us -- although I know you wanted it for the "white garment" for the vigil.
