I rarely have the time to keep up with any of the "post something every day of this month" memes, on any of my various social media venues. But I saw someone on twitter talk about an "OcTBR" [TBR=to be read] meme involving focusing on reading only from your existing TBR stack. I'm not going to read anything I wasn't already going to read, but I came up with my own variant of it. Every day in October (ideally) I'm posting a twitter thread about a book/author in my "to read" folder on iBooks. I talk about why the book(s) is on my TBR list in the first place, and then a bit about why I haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

I'm a bit more self-conscious about the latter angle. In most cases, it's simply a variant of "there are over a hundred books in the To Read folder and I add new ones faster than I read them, so something's got to give." But how do I gently say, "I read the first book in this series and it was ok but didn't make me excited for the rest"? (I haven't gotten to the couple that fall in that category yet, so don't go trying to guess.) How do you say, "I bought this because I felt it was important to support the author and the book, but it isn't actually my thing"? How do you say, "I was excited for this book when I first bought it, but since then I've heard things that make me wary"?

I guess it's no harder than writing honest reviews. And at least I was interested enough to buy the book in the first place! In any event, it's being fun and you never know: maybe someone else will think it's a fun enough meme to copy me!
