Today's lunchtime bike ride involved putting my ballot in the dropbox at city hall. (I've never actually been inside Concord city hall, though I once went to a book sale at the library in the same building complex.)

The birds have discovered the feeder in earnest -- enough to determine who the default regulars are. Here's today's tally with time of first sighting.

09:00 The nondescript brown finchlike thing is back. Streaked breast. No other distinctive markings. I’m going to go with “female finch” and call it a wrap. Ah, but wait, I have a pair now and the male clarifies that this is the (statistically-expected) House Finch.

10:07 A couple of chestnut-backed chickadees briefly, who took off to the sound of a scrub jay.(But they came back regularly during the rest of the day.)

10:42 The grey titmouse is back and quarreling with the chickadees. Folks, there’s plenty for all!

13:00 Anna’s hummingbird, female I think though I didn't get a good look. Came back several times.

I'm a bit surprised I haven't seen the scrub jay at the feeder, since it's a regular in the yard. I think the birds appreciate that I've put the feeders up right next to the apple tree and a couple other semi-dense bushes. They can dart out and back and not feel exposed.
