The rich text editor page is almost old enough to vote in the US. It doesn't always play well with newer, more modern browsers. Sometimes it's an update to the browser, sometimes it's a gremlin mucking around in the code (seriously, can't find a reason why it shouldn't work, It Just Isn't Right Now), and sometimes even if Mark is standing in the right position with the right moon phase.
There's a new one being worked on, if I can dig out the dev's info on it, I'll comment further.
And...it's back to normal. So who knows. My day-job has gotten me used to the idea of reflexively trying a different browser when something doesn't work as expected.
