Today's life-cleaning project was the mass of accumulated detritus that had washed up on the computer desk. About 80% by volume could go directly into the trash, but it all needed sorting through. I still need to do more organizing of the current software and documentation, and there's still a stack of "stuff that needs to go away where it belongs". But still, much accomplished.

One of the odder things I came across (originally cleared out of the dining room bookshelves) was a collection of other people's off-site computer backups that I've been holding. I'm guessing that [livejournal.com profile] blaurentnv doesn't actually need the complete 33-disk backup set from 1992. Mom -- do I need to hold onto the various genealogy-related backup disks from back when you folks were in Redding? Some of this stuff (like the LaForge diaries) I know I have in more recent form on CD and the rest I'm sure is extremely outdated.

You were on my mind yesterday: someone had put a set of all three volumes of Y Cam. into the royal travel-fund benefit raffle. :)

It's up to 5 volumes these days but the schedule has become extremely irregular. I'd meant to get back onto a regular publishing schedule after I finished grad school, but I've ended up rethinking the business model given that I've capitulated to the joys of web publishing. So I'm still in the process of deciding whether I want to continue with the general-purpose hard copy publication or shift to a combination of web and hard copy depending on which works best for the topic. (For example, most of my really long name articles work better on-line.)

I do want to do a special "Elizabethan Wales" volume at some point, since I have a bunch of articles in the queue that would fit.

My idea was that, if ever the house burned down or some other calamity happened, someone besides me would have copies. Do what you think best. Mom

1992 is probably long enough that they can go. They're probably no longer readable anyway.
