Ok, ok, so I'm a silly Californian tourist. But I always feel cheated if I come to Maine for Christmas and don't get any snow falling down. Lying around all over the ground is ok, but for real atmosphere you need it falling down in at least moderate quantities. Well, when my Mom opened the door to head home a few minutes ago (the parents and the Mainer brother live half a dozen blocks from each other) it was coming down nicely.

Vacation is being an endless round of Settlers of Catan, Hearts, and this peculiar Whist-type game known in our family as "Ker-Poker" whose real name I always forget. This is interspersed with football games (watching, that is) and sessions where everybody sits around all working on laptops at the same time. Geeks through and through.

Snow and Xmas

I grew up in the Bay Area, and my family is based in Los Angeles. The older I get, the weirder/crabbier I get about the whole snow=Xmas imagery. It just doesn't match my experiance. Heck, it was 80 degrees during one of my most memorable Xmas'. I kinda feel like I get the whole white Christmas-thing shoved down my throat.

Maybe I could find Australian Christmas cards or something--that would be more my speed.
