At lunch I figured it was time to try eating, so I scoured the student union cafe and found jello and applesauce. After the last afternoon session I was feeling mildly crappy so rather than latch onto one of the dinner expeditions (just for socializing -- I didn't have much appetite) I went back to my room for a nap. Got up again when people started trailing back in from dinner and was chatting with Robin when I got that sudden cold sweat that says, "Head for the sink!" and disgorged myself of said jello and applesauce. Other than that, I was feeling ok, so I spent the rest of the evening hanging out in [livejournal.com profile] shalmestere's and [livejournal.com profile] hudebnik's room chatting with whoever came by.

This morning I woke up being able to contemplate the thought of solid food without wincing (something I couldn't manage yesterday), so we'll see. Breakfast was applesauce and oj -- I'm not stupid enough to actually try solid food yet. Not until I'm sure I won't be seeing it again.

Thin oatmeal and pieces of banana would be milder for the tummy, or tea and toast, I think. That's what my mom always fed us. Applesauce and OJ are pretty acid, you know.

Good luck to you!

I sure hope that's the last of the sick. There are bigger annoyances than being sick while on vacation, but right now I can't think of any.

I usually start with vanilla yogurt after a bad bout - and only a spoonful or two at a sitting until I'm sure. BRATT diet is what the pediatrician always recommends: bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, and taters. All plain. A former pediatrician (we moved) tipped us off that they give the kids on chemo half doses of Benadryl as an antinauseant when the squidlet caught a bad stomach bug at the age of two. We've tried it ourselves with enough success to keep it on hand.

Thus endeth the unsolicited advice.

Thanks for the suggestions. At the moment, the problem is integrating what my stomach is asking for with what I can reasonably get my hands on. I'm having a bit of a problem with "rebooting" the digestive system. I'd love to have some plain potato soup (i.e., instant mashed potatoes made up as soup) but it just isn't practical here at the conference. I think I need to hunt down some bananas because that would counteract my tendency to focus on fluids, which isn't helping the intestines get back to normal.
