... we have confirmed rodent mortality. Death appears to have been instantaneous. Final damage tally: 3 large plastic food storage containers (only one of which contained anything edible), 1 one-gallon water bottle (used for camping), 1 green cloth shopping bag, 1 box mango nectar, approximately 1/2 c. bird seed.

A successful outcome! Shame about the damage.

I set the no-kill trap last night, but have failed to catch the mouse. On the other hand, there are no fresh droppings, so it might have moved out once I started disturbing its food stores.

Today I need to move the bookcase and investigate behind it.

I hope that's all the damage he did. I still find chewed-up things, papers mostly, from our various mouse invaders.

I'm quite sure it was just the one. I know exactly when and how he entered -- this isn't a case of having a porous house structure. The leavings were consistent with a single critter (and there haven't been any new signs since Sunday).

I'm glad it's gone, but would be cautious, in that he/she may have had close friends or relatives in the very near vicinity. I.e, I'd assume another rat also needs dispatching.

Into the garbage, trap and all. (My garbage collection day is Tuesday morning, so there wasn't time to raise a stink.) When I want to do something interesting with rat carcasses, I do it with nice clean lab rats!
